Family Friendly Riding - Frankton Track & Kelvin Peninsular Trail
Head towards Queenstown CBD then head to Kelvin Peninsula (as far as Jardine Park). If you only have a half day, then this trail is for you! It’s a relatively flat and easy ride with wide trails designed for walkers and riders to share.
Stop at the Frankton Marina for coffee at the Boatshed Cafe or a craft beer at Altitude Brewing.
Total Distance: 15km to 30km depending on route
Recommended time required: Half day (Full Day also an option)
Difficulty level: Easy
Longer Distance Ride - Arrowtown Loop
This full day ride offers fantastic mixed riding. Head towards the Lower Shotover Bridge to join the Countryside Ride towards Arrowtown. Arrowtown is the perfect for a spot of lunch where you can soak up all this historical town has to offer.
In the afternoon you can use the Arrow River Bridges Ride towards Gibbston before taking the Twin Rivers ride back to Lower Shotover Bridge and back into Queenstown. For those not familiar with the area taking a map is advised or you can download the Trail Forks mobile App for super accurate directions.
Total Distance: 40km loop
Recommended time required: Full Day
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Longer Distance Ride - Gibbston River Trail
Head towards the Lower Shotover Bridge to ride the Twin Rivers Trail. After picking up the Arrow River Bridges Trail you’ll find yourself riding towards Gibbston.
Famous for it’s wineries, Gibbston is an excellent place for lunch. In the afternoon we recommend taking the same trail back to Bike Lounge.
Total Distance: 50km return
Recommended time required: Full Day
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Half Day Ride - Lake Hayes Loop
Head towards the Lower Shotover Bridge and North on the Countryside Ride. Taking a right onto Rutherford Road will lead to the North end of Lake Hayes and the start of the Lake Hayes Loop. We recommend doing the half loop and joining the connector trail to Lake Hayes Estate.
Follow the signage carefully back to the Twin Rivers Trail towards the Lower Shotover Bridge.
Total Distance: 20km return
Recommended time required: Half Day
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Advanced Ride - Jacks Point
The trail starts in Jardine Park which is reached via the Kelvin Peninsula Trail. This is a spectacular ride and is the ideal ride for those wanting to get off the beaten track. This ride is classified as a advanced (grade 4) trail due to some steep climbs, descents and a couple of tight bends.
The last 3kms are particularly steep and technical. The trail does get narrow, however overall its pretty smooth gravel surface. We highly recommend this trail, it's worth the effort, just be sure to get off and push your bike for a few minutes if you are a less experienced rider.
Total Distance: 40km return (or 20km one way)
Difficulty level: Intermediate to Advanced
